Privacy
Car Mentor is an early project run by Roman, a sole individual based in Cardiff, UK. This page explains what we collect during the beta, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. We keep it short because we collect very little.
What we collect
- If you join the waitlist: your email address and, if you choose to give it, your car's make and model.
- If you use the app preview: the number plate you type and your answers to the questions. In the preview these are saved only in your own browser (local storage), so you can come back to your car. They are not sent to us, except that when you look up a real plate, the plate is sent to our server to fetch its public DVSA MOT record, and that record is cached for 24 hours. To remove them, clear this site's data in your browser settings. Questions you ask the AI helper are sent to our server with your car's details to get an answer, and are not stored.
- Visit counts: we count visits and button taps per day. These counts don't include your IP address, cookies or anything that identifies you.
We don't use advertising trackers or cookies, and we don't sell or share your data.
Why we use it
- To email you once when the beta opens (lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
- To understand whether people find Car Mentor useful (lawful basis: our legitimate interest in improving a product, using counts only).
- To limit misuse of the AI helper and plate lookups, we briefly keep a daily count of requests per IP address. It is deleted automatically after about a day.
Where it's stored
On Cloudflare's servers (Cloudflare, Inc.), which host this site, and AI answers are generated with Cloudflare Workers AI. Cloudflare may process data outside the UK under the UK's approved safeguards.
How long we keep it
Waitlist emails are kept until the beta opens, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. If the project stops, we delete them.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or withdraw consent, by emailing romansmete@gmail.com. We'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Advice disclaimer
Car Mentor gives general information, not a diagnosis. Always have a qualified mechanic confirm any repair.
